Lobster most often tops a guest list for what to eat when traveling to Camden, Maine. There are many unique places to enjoy this treat, and we can certainly point the way. But sometimes on a longer trip, you want to keep it simple and have a break from the big meals out. Pizza always seems to fit that bill. This season there are several great local choices right here in Camden and a couple more just up the road in Belfast. Flatbread Pizza in Rockport rises to the top with quality organic ingredients, brick oven goodness and a great venue – easy to find, easy to park and plenty of seating. Camden House of Pizza takes on new ownership this season and adds pizza by the slice, which is really needed in this town when sometimes you just want something small or to tide you over during a day of sightseeing and activity. Coming off the water you’ll also be able to find it right in Camden harbor as rumor has it that in just a few more weeks there will be another choice housed in the former Seabright Pizza space. Heading north, Pizza Permare in Northport. Belfast has two spectacular options, Chase’s Daily (available at lunch) and the inimitable Meanwhile in Belfast with authentic neopolitan pizza made by a Certified Neapolitan Pizza Chef by Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Napoli – that’s their pie, fresh out of the wood-fired oven, pictured above.
